This week a company called Alesis released a USB mixer that records straight to your iPod. The iMultiMix 8 USB mixer is an eight-channel, all-in-one mixer that has an iPod dock allowing direct to iPod recording. Any iPod from the second to the fifty generation is compatible with the mixes. Using four high-gain mic line preamps with XLR and ¼ balanced inputs, 48V phantom power, built-in limiter, 16-bit/44.1kHz and 48 kHz recording to computer along with two guitar mic/line inputs, auxiliary sends and returns, 100 on-board, 28-bit digital effects and three band EQ with high/low shelving and mid-band pass/reject rounds out the features. I have no idea what any of that means, but I’ll assume it means better sound and lots of options for recording. Steinberg Cubase recording software is included as well. Availability is set for Q3 2007 and pricing is $499. This is a much fancier version of the USB Mixing Kit we looked at before. About Everything USB
