Well, we've all heard the news. While the 3G iPhone wasn't exactly the best kept secret in the world, Apple surprised us with with the competitive pricing: a mere $199 for the 8GB 3G iPhone and $299 for the 16GB. Both will hit retail stories on July 11th in 22 countries during first wave. When the rest of the world is eagerly waiting, someone (hint: blogger, press) has touched it. Unfortunately, it's not us. MacCentral, Gizmodo & Laptop Magazine have a hands-on for the iPhone 2.0 that boasts high-speed connection and GPS. Here's a bullet list of what they have found out after a brief encounter with the Apple's latest crown jewel. - Smoother look & feel
- Curvier plastic back panel; better reception without aluminum
- LCD, screen's glass identical to previous iPhone
- 3.5mm headphone jack, meaning adapter no longer requires
- Chromed side buttons
- Speedy 3.5G connection (4s to load laptopmag.com; 2s to load cnn.com; 3s to load nytimes)
- Swift GPS response (no map included)
- Same old 2MP camera; photos will be geo-tagged
- Bluetooth AD2P support not confirmed
- Very thin, rounded dock
- 2 prong USB power plug
- Controlling Sega's Super Monkey is awkward due to G-sensor controls
- No Wireless USB yet
