Apple Launches Mighty Mouse

  August 2nd, 2005

Filed under USB Mice & Trackballs

Apple may have finally admitted that one button is not enough. They have just introduced the Mighty Mouse, which has the equivalent of 4 buttons and a 360° scroll function. Apple managed to add all of that and still somehow make it look like a one-button version.

The Mighty Mouse is a USB optical mouse without the standard two buttons and scroll wheel. Instead, it uses a small rubber ball that allows for 360° movement - like the rubber balls that mice used to have on the bottom.

As a bonus, there are sensors on either side of the mouse that respond to a squeeze for mouse3 and mouse4 - activating Mac OS X Tiger Dashboard, Exposé or a whole host of other, customizable features instantly.

Only Mac OS X Tiger makes full use of all possible features and programmability with the Apple Mighty Mouse. Earlier Mac versions limit programmability. Although it is supported in Windows 2000 and XP, no drivers are supplied and the Windows standard scroll mouse function is all that's available.

The Mighty Mouse is available now for $49 at the Apple Store. We're sorry, but there will be no cape option.
