Archos: Drop Another $25 for H.264/AAC Playback

  November 1st, 2006

Archos has made its 404 / 504 / 604 besides iPods the second PMP that can playback H.264 in .m4v / mp4 / .mov container. The new software plug-in could lure a few people eagerly waiting for a true movie iPod to get a big-screen Archos. It doesn't of course tweak the iTunes in anyway; otherwise, the move likely would invite lawsuit from Apple. Anyway, the paid upgrade (take notice the plug-in costs $25) is originally designed to make their players compatible with all the QuickTime Podcasts out there. A second upgrade is also in the works that adds support for MPEG-2/AC3 in .vob container.
