Asus is once again proving that they are a force to reckoned with in the consumer electronics marketplace. More to the point they really do seem to be on a roll at CEBIT 2011 this year as they have just unveiled not only a bunch of cool new products but also an external Blu-Ray writer they have dubbed the BW-12D1S-U. The Asus BW-12D1S-U is a
USB 3.0 based external Blu-ray writer which can not only read and write DVD's at insane speeds, but can also read and write BD discs at speeds of up to 12x, which is basically twice as fast as USB 2.0 devices can manage.
Heck, this USB 3.0 writer is even going to support 3D Blu-Ray discs, 2D to 3D conversion and can even do up-scaling of DVD's to high definition….all built into the device itself. Details on its release date and the MSRP are unavailable at this time. Frankly, we don't even know the model of the internal writer Asus picked for this
external optical storage. But as we have said before, since this is the 800 lb. Gorilla of the PC world, you probably won't have to wait to long before you can get your hands on this 12x USB 3.0 Blu-ray writer.
