Avid Mbox 2 Micro - Mobile Studio on a USB Sound Stick

DON'T MISS

Digidesign's been pushing their mobility-centric gateway products for a few years now, ever since they released the original MBox in 2003. However, their new MBox 2 Micro takes the mobile-capable studio one step further, capitalizing on the trend towards flash drives capable of running applications to bring you a mixing studio that fits in your pocket.

Loaded with very capable ProTools LE recording system and a suite of Digidesign plug-ins, and sporting 48 KHz, 24 bit processing and analog output through a headphone jack with a volume control, the MBox 2 Micro certain makes the idea of plugging in to your nearest USB port and doing some quick mixing intriguing.

The cross-compatibility (through ProTools LE) is a smart idea, consistent with Digidesign efforts to upsell you to their more powerful ProTools systems without hampering your creativity, but one thing we're curious about, which the product page does not address, is whether or not the MBox 2 Micro has any storage capacity: can you take your projects with you? If so, Digidesign might have just found a way to make the portable studio that much more portable.
