Belkin USB Anywhere Does PC-less Drive Transfer

  July 14th, 2005

Tired of lugging around a camera, flash drive and notebook for shuffling photos? Belkin's USB Anywhere allows you to dump the PC from the equation. This handy and affordable new device allows you to copy individual files or complete directories from your camera to another drive or drive-to-drive directly.

The USB Anywhere is a compact device retailing for only $39.99. It has an optional AC adapter included, but can work without it thanks to batteries. It can transfer to and from cameras, MP3 players, USB hard drives and card readers. While it can copy from CD/DVD burners, it can't write to them. It's perfect for offloading photos from a camera with a full memory cache.

The Belkin USB Anywhere automatically shuts down after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve power. It indicates transfer status with a flashing LED. Unfortunately, it's strictly a USB 1.1 Full Speed device.

Macally has a similar product called the SyncBox II with the only difference of equipping with a LCD menu.
