Belkin Certified WUSB Peer-to-Peer Network Adapter

  October 3rd, 2006

WE RECOMMEND
As soon as Intel pushes its UWB Link 1480 MAC silicon out the door, Belkin isn't far behind with its announcement to implement Intel WUSB based on same design into its upcoming USB dongles. Belkin will initially roll out the product in Q1 2007 as a wireless peer-to-peer network, with future plans to addd WUSB device control. Intel's MAC can also be put inside ExpressCards, and allows concurrent functionality of WiNET and WUSB. To refresh your memoy, Certified WUSB enables wireless access up to 480Mbits/s within 3m or 110Mbit/s within 10m, and requires completely different software stack, host silicon and peripheral controller. I'm actually quite curious as to how Belkin can help consumers distinguish between the Cable-Free USB & Certified WUSB since the company will be shipping a cable-free USB hub complying with a competing standard.
