A champion of speed and storage, Buffalo, has made some pretty amazing claims with the release of their latest USB 3.0 card. They are claiming read/write speeds well in excess of 300MB/s. The best part, they have the guts to put 4 USB 3.0 ports on their new Renesas-based card. Many companies have been reluctant to put
more than 2 ports on their cards due to the difficulty in moving that much data x2 much less x4. Even Motherboard manufacturers have had to jump through quite a few hoops, tapping into both Northbridge, Southbridge and PCI data lanes to make room for all the data that
USB 3.0 is able to offer. Seeing 4 ports on a USB 3.0 card is a big tipoff that something has changed.
Buffalo may have added some of their own magic to make this possible. In the past, they have managed to eek out a few more MB/s out of USB 2.0 by writing their own drivers. Some might call this cheating as it only speed up data in certain conditions, we call it innovating. However they managed to do it, you may have to wait a few more weeks to test these claims unless you happen to live in Japan. No other
release details have made it out of the Pacific. Hopefully, Buffalo will get these into our greedy hands sooner rather than later.
