The USB Zone has a bit of a dubious (but admittedly attractive) flashy[sic] drive for sale now. While it's not the first flash drive we seen attacked with a bedazzler, it's the first has been decorated with a dash of the slick and trendy carbon fibre. Initially known for an extremely high strength to weight ratio the process to create it is relatively expensive and reserved for exclusive uses. Elite sports cars, racing bikes and golf clubs all take advantage of its properties but that elitism seems to have been transferred back to the material itself. Carbon fibre is now showing up in more decorative applications like jewelry and the like. The site selling this little gem (sorry) has described it as running at 40mbps which is the maximum speed for USB 1.0 but is faster than the fastest rated flash drive that's currently available in these capacities for under $100. Given that pendant style and padlock version are both going for less than $60 there's either some amazing new inexpensive NAND or SLC memory under then hood or more likely there's a few typos in the product description. This is not likely to be intentional deception just a mistranslation. USB Flash speeds can be pretty confusing. Also the padlock style makes has no added security features like encryption, which would have been appropriate. All that being said, this chic spy gear style drive might be just your style.
