$250k Bounty on Heads of Conficker USB Worm's Creator

$250k Bounty on Heads of Conficker USB Worm's Creator

Sick the Dogs on 'em! Conficker (a.k.a. Downadup) has made the top of Microsoft's most wanted list. Law enforcement agencies are teaming up to find the lone gunman responsible for the Conficker USB worm. The offer is no joke as Microsoft has already paid up for help in the arrest of the culprit in the Sasser worm outbreak. A pair of informers in 2005 split the 250k bounty for their contribution. One of Conficker's most annoying traits is its ability to hide on USB drives and avoid anti-virus sweeps while drives are disconnected and reinfect once they are plugged back in.

While most people are pondering the stimulus package and the economy the Redmond giant amidst layoffs and problems of its own is going to continue to hunt those who threaten its bottom line and customers. They have a few leads due to figuring out the algorithm that Conficker uses to search out subversive instructions from millions of potential domain names. Armed with that information authorities are questioning anyone who registers one of the possible remote control domains. German courts took care of the sentencing and punishment of the Sasser hoods, we're thinking that freshly emptied Guantanamo Bay Prison would be a fitting place for these cyber-villains once they are found.
