Corsair Flash Voyager Hits 16GB... More Data at Stake?

  December 11th, 2006

DON'T MISS

It would seem we are less concerned about the lack of space on a flash drive as brand name companies are expanding mainstream thumbdrives to over 10GB. You can now fit 8 full-length HD movies (likely encoded in H.264), 4 DVDs or 20 CDs on the latest Corsair Voyager 16GB. Corsair also mentions about running a full version of Windows XP on their $299 USB key. The high price tag aside, the new waterproof Voyager also takes advantage of 8-bit ECC, the highest code scheme available today for flash-based controller to enhance data reliability. Basically, it means the controller will check the block integrity before allowing data to be written; hence, your data will less likely fall into bad sector. Speed is a letdown at 22MB/s read & 7MB/s write.
