Dutch Court Says No to USB Drive Tax

This sounds like something that RIAA would try to pull off here in the states. A Dutch industry group called SONT, which I prefer to call SNOT, proposed a tax two years ago on USB flash drives sold in the Netherlands. The tax would have amounted to about ten cents here in the USA per flash drive sold. SNOT also proposed that the tax vary based on storage capacity. The reason for the tax was to help pay artists whose music would undoubtedly be stolen using the flash drive. Naturally the Netherlands’ largest consumer organization protested calling the tax proposal bizarre. I’d go a step further and call it something that I can't write on a family oriented site. I wonder how long it will be before RIAA tries something like this, then perhaps they are too busy suing dead people. The tax was shelved in the Netherlands thanks to strong lobbying against it.
