Talking Show me your Sandra benchmark numbers!

This is a small project for my USB flash drive section to show how fast people would get on their USB flash drives. I would like to see which drives get the highest endurance & raw speed numbers.

Procedures to follow...
1. Download Sandra 2004 from this address.
http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_x86&langx=en&a=
2. Run the "Removable Storage/Flash Benchmark".
3. Click 'Copy to Clipboard'
4. Enter your product name and paste the result in your reply.

Also make sure you post your system configuration.

I will post mine first.

Drives tested:
- DiskOnKey Classic 2.0 1GB
- Freecom USB Card 256MB
- Lexar JumpDrive Eite 256MB
- Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256MB
- Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 512MB
- PNY 128MB Attache 2.0 128MB
- Imation Swivel USB 2.0 256MB
- Sandisk Cruzer Micro 256MB
- Sandisk Cruzer Titanium 512MB

Hmmmm.............

8Gb, eh? I'm clueless as usual. In my right hand is 256Mb cruzer. Hard drives are 40Gb and 120Gb. I have no idea what that 8Gb refers to.

I'll repeat test and post later.

Heh... that's alright...

This thread is to help people choose which drives have best score in durability and performance. Apparently, score of Lexar JumpDrive Elite isn't very encouraging.

Someone told me that this model uses the T4 processor and faster flash. Other than that I don't know.

Also, I tried to run the test on a little 64MB 2.0 PenDrive, the test died, and left a folder full of trash on the key.

Hmm... DOK PR told me my Classic 2.0 model is exactly the same as yours in terms of T4 RISC processor and other internal components.

MrSmoke, are these drives formatted with NTFS or FAT32? It seems weird that your PNY and Kingston DataTraveler 2.0 is so much faster than my DOK 2.0 1GB.

I use FAT so that I can boot into DOS to troubleshoot systems that support USB boot. Maybe it's just the computer that the software is running on? I really don't know what would be causing the differences.

May I ask what kind of USB host controller you are testing the flash drives with?

I ran all my tests on a Celeron 2.2Ghz with Hi-Speed USB ports powered by a ICH4 south bridge.

(BTW, is there something you can do to slow down your avatar? )

I really don't have anything special. I ran the tests on my DFI NFII Ultra LanParty; AMD 2000+ w/256MB pc2100

Well, Buckaroos,

I looked at that other thread, NTFS on Cruzer, and converted my Sandisk Cruzer mini 256Mb from Fat32 to NTFS. What a disappointment:

Is everyone else getting an insufficient size error in Sandra?

I think I know what it is. This Imation drive uses disk partitioning software and password protection. The disk management software is always on the drive after formatting too. I'm pretty sure that these features are blocking Sandra.

I think you need to reformat the drive using Imation's Disk Software to remove the secure partition. Does connecting this drive creates 2 drive letters? This is the case with a lot of USB flash drives... one's a secure parition; the other is a, well, non-secure partition.

Actually, it creates one drive letter. In my case, drive I: is what appears and it represents the Public area. The same drive letter is used when I use the Disk Manager software to switch to Private. In other words, the Private drive is hidden until you log in with the software. Once I do that, drive I: now represents the Private partition.

I cannot get Sandra to finish a benchmark. I'll have to use HDTach.

Hmm... HD Tach isn't exactly the right tool for benchmarking a USB flash drive. It only tells the good side of a USB flash drive. Are there documentations that tell you how to adjust size of the secure partition or to remove it altogether?

I tried all of those configurations. I switched to FAT32, made one public partition and tried without the software installed. No go.

Unknown brand 128MB USB Flash Drive

Just ran these benchmarks before I sent the drive back. I am glad I returned this drive after running these tests on it, it is really, really slow. The drive has a FAT file system when running the test. My system is a AMD XP2000+, Gigabyte 7VAX, 1GB Ram, 60GB 7200RPM HD System with USB 2.0, so I don't think it should slow it down.

Samsung 128MB Flash Drive???
I really don't know what model it is, it does look similar to the Kingston 1.1 though. It is an OEM, and since I have returned it, I can't get any more info on it.
Here is where I picked it up from:

Before you post again, you might want to do a little homework. These drives appear to be hard to find, and bear a striking resemblance to the Kingston USB 1.1 keys, although the style of the case doesn't mean anything, since many OEM's share case designs.
If the packaging said HI-Speed, then we might have something to look at, but without a product number, or manufacturer's technical specs anywhere on the web, all we are left with in your post is speculation rather than information.

PQI Intelligent Stick 2.0

Here are the benchmarks on the PQI Intelligent Stick 2.0. This flash drive was FAT format when the tests were run. They don't really seem that great when compared to the M-Systems DiskonKey or the PNY posted above. Should I still keep this drive or can I get a better one out there for around $30. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
