CaniScan LiDE 60 +

I have a CanoScan LiDE 60 scanner connected to a Windows XP + SP2 IBM laptop via the USB port.

When I run CanoScan Toolbox 4.9 I receive the following error when I click on Scan 1 and then scan.

Unable to open TWAIN source.
Please check connection
Then re-start Toolbox

I just can't figure oput what is wrong.

So far, googl'ing has'nt helped me fix this.

Is there any free windows opensource Scanning software that I can use to try ? Would that avoid this error or is more low level than that ?

Please help. I can provide more information if you need it.

Also device manager does display this device as being detected with a driver.

Some basics:

Has the scanner worked on the IBM before?

If so, when did it first fail?

Does it work on other PCs?

Have you tried updating the software?

* The scanner has not worked on this laptop before, however i've used the USB port many times.

Control Panel / Scanners and Cameras

CanoScan LiDE 60 is detected.

I click on Test Scanner

And it passes the test.

"Your imaging device successfuly completed the diagnostic test."

Contol Panel / Computer Management / Imaging Devices

Driver Date 02/03/2005.

Afaik, this is the latest CanoScan LiDE 60 Driver for Windows XP.

btw I tried some different scanning applications other than Canon's CanoScan Toolbox v4.9. Such as SimpleCopier, CopyingMachine and Deskscan and they all report an error about the following dll :

Acquire Proxy: simplecopier.exe - Unable to Locate Component

This application has failed to start because rmslantc.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

This file does exist :
c:\winnt\twain_32\cnql60\rmslantc.dll

C:\GPG>dir c:\winnt\twain_32\cnql60\rmslantc.dll
10/09/2001 16:44 98,304 RMSLANTC.DLL

I am completely lost, as what to try next.

Thanks for your post.

Without the base Canon TWAIN driver, 3rd-party software won't work. They all build on the base TWAIN driver.

Try copying the RMSLANTC.DLL to both the TWAIN32 and System32 folders and then run this command:

REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\RMSLANTC.DLL

Thanks again for your post.

This is a Windows XP machine, so it's c:\winnt.

When I tried what you suggested above, I received the following error from RegSrv32

LoadLibrary("C:\Windows\System32\RMSLANTC.DLL") failed - The specified module could not be found.

Hmmm I went back to basics and discovered that I had'nt downloaded "CanoScan LiDE60 Scanner WIA Driver 1.2.1.0 for Windows XP" from :

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadDetailAct&fcategoryid=235&modelid=11446

In the documentation for the WIA Driver it says :

o The Canon Scanner WIA Driver and ScanGear CS (TWAIN driver) cannot be present (installed) on the same system for the same scanner at the same time.

So i'm now in the process of trying that. When I run the .exe, something happens, however I don't receive any Windows that prompt and ask me what files i'd like to extract.

Canon have made a mess with this driver.

How old is this laptop? It sounds like Windows needs a reinstall.

A few things can cause this error. your WINDOWS/WINNT files are hidden as well as the CANOSCAN directory. But more commonly, you probably installed from the Install CD with your anti-virus still activated. SCAN-1 activates the ArcSoft Photostudio 5.5 software to perform the scan. The SAVE button on the Toolbox performes the scan from Canon software. Try the SAVE button. If the problem pesists, call Canon Tech Support so they can walk you through the installation properly.

OS: winxp pro sp2

I came across this same problem the other day when I tried to install the Lide 60 on my laptop (WinXp SP2). After much frustration the solution was simple!!

Unload/uninstall all the USB host controllers in Device Manager and reboot. XP reloads the USB Host automatically. This solved the problem instantly - I still have a problem with the OCR software not installing properly but that is a minor issue...probably AV related.

Cheers
Eritian

You need to add the twain driver's install directory to your path:

1. Right click "My Computer" | Properties | Advanced | Environment Variables

2. Select "Path" click "Edit" and add the directory to the end of the "Variable Value" line.

Be sure to use a ; to separate each directory in the path. For my Canon Scanner (3000F), the directory to add to the path was this:
C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\CNQ3000

OS: XP home

Hi Forum,
I also have a Canon Lide60 scanner with much the same symptoms as above. However, I have 2PC's: A P4 desktop and a IBM t40 laptop. On the latter, the scanner works perfectly, even without any software update. On the desktop - nothing. And I have tried everything thinkable along the lines described above:
Updating software - making sure that no other old TWAIN drivers are present - disconnection all other USB equipment - uninstalling USB root hubs - using USB 2.0 and 1.1 - measuring that the consumption from the scanner are well below 500mA - and so on and so forth.
One - maybe important - difference: When the scanner is connected to the laptop, it makes a small mechanical noise, whereas on the desktop - nothing. On both computers, WinXP home detects the scanner OK, and device manager shows no irregularities. So it seems, that the scanner is unable to detect that it is connected, but WinXP thinks it is. But when trying to scan the above mentioned TWAIN error message that the scanner is not connected appears.
I have tried CANON support, but so far no luck.
Any suggestions to resolve this will be much appreciated!!!
Hans-Henrik

I am using Windows XP and I was getting the missing rmslantc.dll in PhotoShop with my Canon Lide30 scanner. But I did just figure out how to work around this problem. After countless uninstalls/reinstalls, I finally stumbled upon this solution. Not really sure how or why it works, but it does.

Find your twain_32 folder. On XP, this is C:\Windows\twain_32.

Find the subfolder for the device that isn't working. I'm using a Lide30 and for me that folder is: C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\CNQL30.

Edit your environment variable and add an entry to the System Variable named Path. Since %SystemRoot% equals "C:\Windows\twain_32", I added:
%SystemRoot%\twain_32\CNQL30

Restart any open programs, and VOILA!

I am having problems with my Canon D1250U2 with the twain driver craching when it is adjusting the lamp etc. Same problems lots of you are posting.

Mine is a very typical setup with good quality components, latest drivers and no fancy software. Not much software at all really. Just a typical office machine.

Still works like a charm on XP. Thanks!
