Fujitsu Launches Bus-powered 300GB USB Hard Drive

  July 6th, 2007

DON'T MISS

Fujitsu announced today that they are launching the world’s highest capacity, secure 2.5” portable external HDD. The drive has a 300GB capacity, but a poky spindle speed of only 4200rpm. How badly that will affect drive performance remains to be seen. The security part comes in with the AES 256 or Blowfish 448-bit encryption options to secure the data. Software called Second Copy 2000 synchronizing software is included to coordinate file sharing and backup across multiple computers. Pricing for the 300GB drive is reasonable at $229 and a 120GB version with a 5400-rpm spindle speed is available for $129. Availability is set for the third quarter of 2007. Both drives connect to your PC via USB 2.0 and since the drives are bus powered, no AC adapter is required. Seems sort of like a less bulky, higher capacity LaCie SAFE drive to me.
