U3 Smart Drives Out NOW From Unlikely Vendor

  September 30th, 2005

If you're one of the early adopters out there who are dying to get their hands on the bleeding edge of every new gadget out there, then you'll be happy to know that U3 is no longer a tease. Thanks to our very avid reader Alex, we have received word that one company already has their U3 smart drives on store shelves before all the major players like SanDisk and Verbatim. The culprit, none other than Best Buy's stereotypical Geek Squad that makes any true geek want to make a dive for the waste basket.

Although skeptical that they're not listed on Best Buy's website, after a quick trip to the Cerritos, CA store we got ourselves a real working U3 drive on the spot. Supposedly, "a select group of Geek Squad Agents were locked away for months in a top secret facility rumored to be in the dense Uruguay Jungle developing USB drives fit for the Geek Squad name. The Agents resurfaced - their skin pale, their eyes ultra-sensitive to the blinding light" to come up with a smart flash drive that was actually developed by U3 LLC. (Where do these marketing types come from?)

The Geek Squad's U3 drives come in 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB capacities, the 512MB model having read and write speeds of 12.7MB and 6.4MB per second respectively. Each is loaded with U3 Anti-Virus by McAfee, Migo for U3, and U3 Thunderbird.
