"17 degree average drop" I run a 2.2Ghz deskNote laptop to crossmix sound, edit video, simulate extensive web database function code calls, and create multimedia CDroms. The laptop has already been through 1 motherboard replacement due to melted components from overheating. On the average, my laptop underside was running at 117-120degreesF without any cooling systems; the average temp is now about 98-100degreesF by constant use of the Antec Cooler. The laptop cooler is VERY solid in design and efficiency. I like the ball bearing fans and the passthrough USB connector. I get compliments about the way it looks all the time. I got one of each; the pearl one and the black one.
But the greatest drawback to this product is it's connection cable. It is USB powered, and the single small connector which powers the cooler goes through a very small hole in its side. On the pearl cooler, the power mechanism works flawlessly; on the Black cooler, less than a day into using the product, I began having power connector issues, and a week into using the product, there simply is NO power transferred by the small connecting pin. Great product. Bad connecting pin design. Be forewarned that a realworld application is not one in which you can keep a small pin connector from being moved inside laptop bags when inserting and removing everyday. EXPECT YOURS to BREAK or stop giving out power. From virtualscribe, March 04, 2004
