"Dell A960" I purchased the Dell A960 4 in 1 for the wifes new Dell 8400 with the intentions of being only a scanner as the ink is to high priced if you do alot of printing . We just wanted the scanner. We purchased our USB /Printer cable for 4.99 shipped on ebay and avoided paying 24.99 + shipping at Dell. You will need to buy a cable save some money http://stores.ebay.com/ComPioneer_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm
We purchased ours for approx 90.00 with a Dell special 50% off coupon that we found at www.dealcatcher.com
We prefer to use the Canon BJC 3000 for the printing as you can buy individual ink cartridges through inkjet123.com .
We have used it for almost 45 days now and it has been trouble free and has nice scanning From Bill R, December 18, 2004
"Outstanding for everything except copying..." Look. I'm a computer tech & even I know that - although this printer comes off as a pretty sweet deal, I'm not convinced it is. I have one of my own. To be totally blunt, it majorly sucks as a copier. I was highly disappointed by that. However, the printing quality for everything else is outstanding. My final analysis is that it is an excellent choice - unless you plan on copying, in which case I recommend you avoid this one like the plague. From Gypsyvannergirl8, October 10, 2004
"Outstanding for everything except copying..." Look. I'm a computer tech & in my opinion, although this printer comes off as a pretty sweet deal, it could be 100% better.
"Be wary!" I got a replacement A960 from Dell because it did not copy a full A4 page (chopped off some of the headers and footers)and violently grabbed the copier paper (even when not fully loaded) resulting in very imperfect copies that are not aligned or centred. The replacement copier has exactly the same faults. I think it is badly designed and would definitely not buy another one! Be very wary! Strictly for home use where appearance is not important. "The A960 is great.. It has not only a printer , scanner, copier and stand alone fax.." The A960 is a great printer. You get 4 functions for 150.00. The people who have a problem with getting ink only from Dell are crazy..You dont have to leave your house..Just call in and they overnight it to you at no extra cost..Have you priced HP cartridges lately? $42.00 yea Dell has great prices and makes it convient also...Hey for you large companies complaining...You get what you pay for...This is not a printer for heavy duty use...Spend the bucks and get a large laser for that... But this for what it is intended for is the BEST... From jane smith, July 27, 2004
"Very nice combo" I purchased the Dell A960 for my spouse's small office. Installed flawlessly on her new Dell 4600 with XP. It is a terrific bundle of applications and the price is extremely reasonable. The A960 is manufactured by Lexmark, but the ink cartridges must be purchased through Dell. I wish the identical Lexmark 4-in-1 supplies would function with the Dell (they are keyed differently). That is my only complaint. Every application runs perfectly and with nice quality reproduction. The controls are very user friendly. That is important, as my spouse is not a "puter person". The footprint is small and fits nicely in a small office environment, complimented by a an efficient paper feed and delivery system. The A960 is also much quieter in any mode than I expected. This product is highly recommended by both of us. From Henry Wood, July 11, 2004
"Good product at a decent price!" If you’re looking for a decent all-in-one printer with the basic options then this is the one for you. It has a great automatic copy feeder like those you would see at a copy place. It has scanning capabilities to you desktop and it has fax capabilities. Don't expect the quality and the bells and whistles you might find in a higher end printer. This printer prints fast and with decent quality. I am an older college student along with my wife and this has all the capabilities you would need (I would not recommend at all for a business but only for home use). I would buy again if I had the choice to do over. The only minor drawbacks I've seen is the limited paper loading it can handle, it’s a little on the loud side, the printer cartridges are little small, it’s a little bulky looking, and the automatic printer on when printing is missing (a message pops up on your desktop telling you to turn printer on or cancel print). It will turn itself off with the power saving mode. Cartridges aren’t to expensive if you search through Ebay for the Dell specific cartridges (yes you can only buy the Dell cartridges for this printer – I recommend setting you printer to print less ink so they last longer). All in all if you want to save money with a printer that can basically do all and you don’t mind buying ink from Dell or Ebay then this is a great printer for the home and all your needs. "What did Dell do with the Tech Specs?" I saw the A960 for a good price, but was cautious because I know all these NEW printers coming out have tiny ink cartridges and you end up spending the difference saved starting with your 2nd cartridge purchase.

I have the HP 1220C which uses the HP45 ink (Cartridge Ink Capacity: 42 ml; Duty Cycle: Approximately 833 pages based on 5% coverage). How come I don’t see this info on the Dell site for the A960 and I do for the HP45?
I think Dell has made some lemonade and they’re serving it to their customers. From JohnKaz, March 31, 2004
"Good at small jobs, bad at large scanning" Everything works fine & as expected except there is one problem - sheetbed scanning of multiple pages.
When i try to scan documents ranging from 2-50 pages the scanner will just stop. Somtimes it'll go through all 50 pages perfectly, other times it'll do 3 pages and then stop (as if there werent another 20 in the sheet waiting to be scanned). This is the case with perfectly normal, flat paper. After it will stop on the first 3 pages, i have to start scannign again which it will do without any adjustment (so the paper is obviously in correctly). I dont know if the printer just doesnt feel like scanning the entire document occasionally or if its a driver problem.
Anyway, for the price & features I do recommend, but if you are looking for something that will scan a lot of many-paged documents I'd look elsewhere. From Mike, February 25, 2004
"Great Printer" Quit whinning about your printer!!!
Good: Excellent printer; no problems; great quality
Bad: Have to purchase ink from Dell directly
I'm so tired of this guy whinning about his experience with his printer. I think he went to every Dell printer review site and pissed and moaned the same exact story everywhere!!! (cut 'n paste I presume).
My A960 simply rocks!!! Great quality in printing, scanning and printing photo, etc. Very happy with my purchase. :) From CONTENT YOUNG MAN, February 10, 2004
"Not to be bought" I was told I'd have to reformat the hard disk and install a completely Windows XP operating systen, in order to install the software. Mind you, this was a Dell A960 Printer being connected to a Dell Dimension 8100 Desktop computer. Bottom line, I returned it and bought an HP, which installed just fine. Caveat emptor: translation: don't buy the Dell A960 unless you want to refortmat your hard disk before you can install the printer software. From Franklin, February 04, 2004
"I love it!" I just got my Dell A960, and love it. Also got it at 10% off w/ free shipping from Dell. I'm very impressed with the quality, it is a clone of Lexmark's X6170 multi-function printer. The only drawback that I see is that you must buy your ink cartridges directly from Dell. The Lexmark is priced at about $40 to $90 more, but with the cost savings of getting ink cartridges on sale, you may want to consider the Lexmark too! From Deborah Solomon, January 16, 2004
