"Very cool, but very unpromising" When I first got my Dell DJ for Christmas, I started having problems immediately. First, it didnt come with an instruction manual, so I had to figure everything out on my own. Second, it came with a progam called MUSICMATCH, which doesnt run very well. The program is slow at ripping CDs and I couldnt get my songs on the Dell DJ, so I had to transfer all my songs to Windows Media Player. Third, my Dell DJ will not open the media library. I click on it, but it will not open. So now, I have to call Dell, and we all know how much of a pain in the butt that is, and I have to get it replaced. It is June now, and I got it in December. Dont get me wrong, it is a cool device, but if you get one, expect the worse. I recomend getting an Ipod. From Michael Cline, June 05, 2005
"DJ is ok but get an Ipod" The extra $50 for an Ipod is worth it. The DJ is a good mp3 player but it shuts off by itself with full power sometimes, and the usb connector always gets stuck in it, you have to use a knife to get it out. I called Dell to get a new one, it's been more than a month, and we have all sorts of crap from dell, including an extra DJ (but the one they sent us is broken.. idk why they sent it...) I even gave them the part number and they still cant figure it out. From Mat, January 24, 2005

"hidden drawbacks" I had a lot of inital trouble with Dell actually delivering my DJ in a timely fashion, and it did not come with a paper manual so there was a lot of fumbling. It's frustrating too since my sister's original DJ can be used as a recording device and my newer model cannot. I thought upgrades were supposed to have more options, not less?
Tha said, it's a nice little machine, but I may opt for an ipod next time. From Nikki V., January 20, 2005
"God help you if it breaks" I received this for Christmas and there was no software CD in the box. After minimal hassle on the phone Dell sent me a CD. Later, I found that the connector on the bottom of the unit was damaged such that the cable would not attach easily, and when it did it would get stuck. Also, some of the pins were missing. I called Dell's tech support and after a couple minutes I got a message that "this line is no longer in service" and the phone hung up. I tried a second customer support number and waited 2 hrs. 10 min. before getting tired of waiting. So, I hung up and called a sales person, who promptly answered but needed to get his manager, which took at least an hour (since I hung up after waiting an hour). As of today I still haven't gotten through to a customer service rep. The moral of the story is, despite their claims, Dell tech support is frustrating at best--keep this in mind when buying. Assuming it works, the DJ seems like a nice unit, but the earpiece is disappointing and its unfortunate that the USB cable is permanently stuck to the charging cable (makes it kind of bulky). "Nice!" I got a great deal and have had it for 5 days and really like it. I'm very familiar with the iPOD mini, and this kicks it's but. Nice feel, good interaction and works great. 20G for less than $200 delivered to my house was the kicker for me. Nice job Dell! From Mark, December 23, 2004
"Yes I Own One....Love It!" Well it was this or the ipod , i got this because it was cheaper, and i can live without the games. the new dj is a great mp3 player i love the sleek brushed metal design, blue display, and the simplicity of getting started(storage ain't to bad either).
I highly recommend it From samuel, December 21, 2004
