"why did I buy this HP product??" I swore I would never buy HP again...but this just looked and sounded too good to be ture. Well, it was. When trying to transfer to DVD from tape, it keeps sticking in random places, then tells me it can't find my device. This is a real lemon all right, just like the other HP products I bought over the years. From Rick Philips, May 05, 2005
"It's great! I've used mine many times." I had a little trouble in the beginning with connecting to my Sony vcr/dvd player. But I found the problem. The cable that came with the writer did not go into the rca jacks in back of my vcr/dvd play all the way. Therefore, it did not get the power it needed. Once I purchased the right cable that both fit the writer and the vcr/dvd player, I had no further problems. I love it. I am a sr. citizen grandma and I have been using it for the last five months without any problems. I have copied all four of my children's video tapes to dvds and I have purchased additional movie writing applications that also work with the movie writer so that I can make dvds of my grandchildren's activities/birthday parties etc. combining digital camera pictures and camcorder movies. It's a great receational hobby for me. I reccomend this writer to anyone who has the time to play with this kind of hardware.

"Nothing but problems" I've had this darn thing for almost 2 weeks. I've devoted a couple hours each day to work on burning some DVDs. So far, I've got two DVDs, but only after having numerous problems that continue to arise. I've contacted tech support no less than a dozen times...they are helpful, but the issues are not resolved. I've ruined a half dozen blank dvds so far.
I'm about to inquire about a refund. From Steve, November 15, 2004
"Great design - Very poor manufacturing" This product is what I needed.
Bought it, was able to brun two DVDs when on my HP PC.
Move to a more powerful PC with XP Pro, and then the problems started.
Results: spent more than 20 hours to get the problems sorted out...but to no avail... Most likely what I got is a lemon and I will have to call HP again. Support from India is good. There is a website created by one of the designer with lots of information, see www.k0lee.com (this is k zero..). My recommedation: go to an external video adapter and use your in PC DVD writer. "great product" I just got mine the other day and I have had no problems with it. It is an excellent product and has great support from HP. I have been able to move all of my movies from vhs to dvd. The only thing I would want in this that it didn't come with was a help guide to the software provided. Other than that its great! From Amy Woods, July 11, 2004
"dc4000 defective power supply; will be returning unit" Well, after looking at the horrible reviews of the dc3000; and finding that the reviews of the dc4000 were slightly less horrible; and hoping that, after all, how bad could HP hardware be - I bought one and it doesn't work. It seems the problem is the power supply - the unit is not getting power, and the power supply brick whines like a jet engine, as does the dc4000 (until I unplug the power supply). I tried open and closing the DVD drawer; which is the official power on test and nothing happened. These units seem to have VERY POOR BUILD QUALITY. If you take the plunge test the unit immediately, and be prepared to return it. From Bill C., June 05, 2004
