User Review(s)
"Needs Attention"
As a computer technician, this wasn't the easyest of tasks.
I did a job, they had XP home edition, with 56k dial up, so windows updates were not being done, and suchlike. The CD that came with the printer would not install, i got a software error.
The way i over came this, is by ugrading the computer to Windows XP pro SP2, and doing all neccesary updates, once this was done, i had no trouble, printing and scanning, fax was fine.
Just make sure your machine is upto date, is my reccomendation if you have this product.

"God awful slow"
The 5110 printer is so slow that is is totally useless. It takes several minutes for each page of print. I bought it because HP usually has great printers... this one is a loser and unusable if I want a print out the same day as I hit the print button.

From David Haynes, March 02, 2005

"Recall Now"
Was easy to in install works
good but has a flaw that is built into it, should have been
recalled. The reason it is noisy is its fast but the supporting cast is weak. There are two gear that will go out and send a error paper/carriage
jam. You can read the user manual in French,Spanish or
English still does not change
a harware weakness, after it
breaks good luck trying to find the 5 cent plastic gear
just send it in so they can
use it for a trade in. That is when I am sure the nickle
gear appears.

"hp 5510 streak printing and no receive fax"
I also have had many problems with the 5510 causing streaking print using the document feeder. I can clean it using a long q-tip and water but it takes several swippes to get it clean. Also now my fax quit receiving faxes. Luckly I bought a 2 year warranty-- but this is my third replacement. 2 with printing problems and this with fax problems.
Don`t buy this model if you are looking at it.
If you do, get a extended warranty, you will use it

"Good but streaking problem"
A month ago, I would have given this unit two thumbs up, but in the last few weeks, it developed a problem that seems chronic. I've had it for about seven months. A few minor problems installing on one (older) machine - no problem on two others. Printer works great, but recently I've been getting a streak down all documents that are scanned and faxed from the machine. Cleaning doesn't help. I notice another person in forum section had the same problem...

"Off to a Good Start!"
It's early in the game, but I read some of these reviews detailing installation problems AFTER my 5510 was ordered. And, I was concerned. But everything worked smooth as silk on the software installation and product assembly and the first color picture I've printed (on ordinary paper) is crisp and clear. Let's hope my good fortune continues!

"HP Officejet 5510"
Noted everyone problem completion of installation, experience the same problem when upgrade motherboard to Intel P4 from P3
In my case pronters installed and fac but not scanner and HP Director, as a last resort opened CD in windows explorer and clicked on HP Director icon and select repair and same with scanner and after reboot think twice completed half installation
Scanner did show on scanners in control panel but could not communicate, make sure USB directly connected and nit via hub
Still think a good product
Thanks

"works until it does this!!!"
The HP 5110 is a good all-in-one model. The one i have is like 14months old and all of a sudden it started to give this error message "Open door, clear carriage jam and press enter" that is the end of it.. and this has happen to a lot of ppl.. dont believe pls check this out http://fixyourownprinter.com/printer/new/23203.html

"Won't Install"
From reading all the reviews, most posted problems with printer installation. I had the same problem too. I believe it's a software problem. I try installing it 6 times, and it always stopped at 20% installed with an error message. I thought it was my brand new Pent 4 computer with XP. But looks like other people is having the same problem. I don't know what I did, but the next day I try installing it again, and it finally worked. But after reading problems from so many other users, I'm going to return it today. Can't risk a machine not able to work in the future.

"poeoples problems with their machines"
You know the problem isnt with the machine its with the user. The problem is research and reading...the real problem is that people will call after they cant figure it out. Here is a radical idea:

"READ YOUR MANUAL AND RESEARCH THE PRODUCT!!!!"

if you did you wouldnt have the problems that you have. So suck it up and do your homework. Don't rely on the sales reps at Staples or FutureShop.

"HP 5110 won't install"
Had same problems others had installing. It never worked. Spent hours with this re-installing to no completion. Followed all the hp help stuff on line. Will box up and get rid of it. Sorry to have such a bad experience with HP when everthing else worked great in past. To those who think it is a matter of inserting a disc, I did it 8 times, came back at 1:30 a.m. and the 8 p.m. installation was still running itself in circles and never completed.

From Chris, October 04, 2004

"If you're having MAJOR install trouble it could be the hardware"
Initially I had MAJOR installation trouble! 3 calls to HP, 3 progressively different solutions from "just wait it takes a long time to install", "exchange my software with retailer" to "uninstall reinstall...HP sending me new software" PC still not recognizing officejet...I tried this on two NEW Computers both running XP and NO GO...finally I deducted that the problem was not software, cables or in my ability to follow install instructions...it was the PRINTER ITSELF! Luckily I boought the replacement plan at compusa because I'd been trying to install this damn thing for 3 weeks...they exchanged the printer for me and VOILA!!! Installed in 15 mins! WORKS GREAT and software is impressive!

From Matt, September 18, 2004

"Great ,trouble receiving fax"
HP 5510 ,is a great little machine .NO problem installing,if you read the instruction correctly .installed on XP.Everything works fine except to receiving a fax with a digital answering machine.without the machine on it will receive ok.I tried leaving a short message on the machine ,I was silent for a few seconds .the 5510 would not recognize the incoming fax through the answering machine.Otherwise the 5510 is fine for the money.

From Sal mazzurco, September 05, 2004

"Love this machine"
I tend to get flustered when I attempt to install anything more complex than a lightbulb. I bought this machine, looked at it sit one the floor for about 2 weeks dreading the install, finally opened the package and surprising in about 15 minutes I was up and running flawlessly with Windows XP. I am still estatic after 4 months!

From Becki, August 09, 2004

"Can be great"
Great bang for the buck and saves desk space. Have two of them. One installed no sweat. The other replaced another HP multifunction and installation was problematic. HP support finally walked through removal of all of the old printer driver elements and then has been fine.
