"Does not work, useless manual" Tried one whole day setting up with HP Photosmart 7550 & Windows XP Pro. Marketing material is false advertising. There's no possible way this product will work without major deviation from the manual (IP settings, etc.). Will not risk risk getting stuck with this POS. Will return tomorrow. "Major installation pain!!" Had installation problems both on my mac and windows 2000! But for some helpful insights on the web, I was planning to return this product!
Followed the user manual as closely as possible for both machines and neither worked! For the mac, finally found some useful advice on http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-16190.html
and Jim Liston's comments above (on this website) helped for Win 2k.
IMHO, the user guide should just provide a pointer to these two threads ;-)
Thanks, Jim and af_1200 :)

"Frustrated!" What a pain in the butt!
The first one I thought was broken when it didnt work, so I took it back.
The second one did the exact same thing.
I followed the 1 1/2 instructions in the manual.
Aside from that, I'm a Network Operations Specialist and still cant seem to get it to work.
The time spent trying to figure out how to install this POS, could have been spent building a real Server Box!
Dont buy this headache..even if you do get it to work, it wont be without some effort if not a night spent in the bliss of computer hell with a touch of bamboo under the fingernails. From Joes Cockroach, September 01, 2004
"Battle to install with hp2410xi printer" A friend, an intermediate computer user, battled for several months with this print server. He wanted to share his hp PSC 2410XI USB Printer-Scanner-Copier-Fax with two computers, one running XP Pro, the other used Windows 2000 Professional.
The IOGEAR installation program wouldn't recognize any printer drivers on the hp2410XI CD, that is no hp printers showed up in the dialog box after clicking the "Have Disk" button on the Microsoft XP Pro Add Printer Wizard.
After running into this stumbling block, I canceled the install and tried it again several times. Same result. I had a idea: connect the printer directly to the computer so the drivers can be successfully installed and then reconnect the printer to the printer server and then add a network print port so the printer server can communicate with the printer.
I now began installing the IoGear software on the Windows 2000 Professional computer.
Result: same problems. In the add printer step, no hp printers showed up in the dialog box after clicking the "Have Disk" button. So I tried the same fix to this computer. It worked! I was able to print from the Windows 2000 computer.
After I finished this installation, I happened to pick up the IOGEAR package box. I chuckled when I read one of the stated features: "Easily connects your USB printer to your network."
I guardedly recommend this product only for home users with some network knowledge, like IP addressing. Don't spend hours banging your head; ask for help. From Jim Liston, August 15, 2004
"HP Laser jet 1000 and GPSU01 doesn't work!!!" I spent an entire Saturday at a customer site trying to get this item to work. I used the web browser on the item, which give a status of "Ready" waiting for Jobs. However, I can't generate a test page out of. I can ping and connect to the printer but can not generate print a test job. Frustrating. The manual is straight foward, What I am missing???? There is no troubleshooting tip on this manual. Maybe, I just a busted GPSU01. From Steve O, July 26, 2004
"Not worth the risk; buy mine and try it first" I saw the pessimistic reviews but bought it anyway, now with regret. RMA service and tech support did not improve it at all. I run Win XP Home, and Canon i470D printer (apparently one of their 'unsupported' but they never said so).
On installation, I got the test page to print, but then nothing else, ever. From Bruce Chadbourne, June 30, 2004
"WORKED GREAT in large network environment." Because the HP175x print server didn't support Novell, we were forced to find an alternative USB print server. We had a choice between the hawking and the iogear, and selected the IOGEAR. These are in a 300+ PC environment and are directly connected to DYMO 330 Turbo printers. We have been using this configuration for a few months now and are very happy with their performance (especially when comparing price to HP). The do run very warm, but no problems as of yet. Would purchase IOGEAR again!!! From Joe, April 01, 2004
"Does not work w HP 6100 All-In-One" Managed to get one test page printed, but only after I switched the printer back to local connection. Seems printer received the test page via the print server and held onto it. Print queue monitor reported intervention required.
This one is going back. From John, February 23, 2004
"Pretty good, but poor documentation" Overall, I rather liked it. I'm using mine to share my Samsung ML-1710 (which wasn't listed as a supported printer).
Overall, I rather like it, though I do think there are a few, minor, flaws with it.
Namely, I think the documentation is lacking. For instance, I wanted to use LPR rather than the included software and they failed to provide any information on this configuration (through trial and error, I found that it was "LPT"). Likewise, it supports IPP, but nothing was provided on how to set this up.
Also, I thought there were some poor choices in the default settings. Particularly, I didliked how all protocols were turned off - particularly TCP/IP. I hated the fact that I had to load the management software even though the unit supported web based configuration. Surely, turning on TCP/IP and DHCP support by default wouldn't have been too difficult. Particularly for people who don't have a PC for initial configuration.
Personally, I haven't noticed any slowdowns with printing - but there is a firmware update that will increase the printing speed.
Finally, I must admit I am a bit concerned about the device - it seems to run fairly hot for such a small device (though the Intel NetPort puts out at least as much heat - its just a bigger device).
Overall though, I do think its an excellent print server and I would recommend it to others, I just think it could stand to be tweaked further. From Bill Vollers, October 11, 2003
"Did not work at all" Installed software on Windows 98 SE and two XP Pro Machines. Setup up IP addres. Installed printer and it said it was ready to print. Tried to print a test page and regular Office document. Did not work. Error printing. I could ping the print server and had not luck at all.
