"Flickering Backlight"
When you get the flickering backlight after putting in the charger, and if the battery has goner below operating power, somtimes leave it on charge for 15 to 20 hours and it should start up, failing that remove one side cap and disconnect the battery and connect it back up and put it on charge but do not take out the charger for at least 15 hours.

"Argggh!"
3 months of trouble free use and I've got the death knell...the chiming bell...in the HDD060's case it's the flickering screen.

Haven't used the player for a couple of weeks and it ran down it's charge (so I thought). Tried turning it on...nada. Plugged it in to charge and the screen started flickering. Tried turning it on...nada. 4 hours later of charging and the flickering is worse than a badly timed strobe light. Tried turning it on...(you've guessed the answer already)...nada. Carry out a soft reset? Of course I tried. And failed.

I am VERY unhappy at the present moment in time. It was purchased for me as a gift so I doubt the purchaser has all the receipts *hoped they bought it online and have an e-mailed receipt*.

The new software is good (make that better than the old one), but I'm frustrated that this is happening to me as it appears to have happened to other people. I couldn't find anything about this problem when I had a look on the net just after it was purchased for me and hope that Philips are prepared to fix it under warranty or offer me a refund/replacement.

Distinctly unimpressed.

"Excellent product.. Great sound"
I bought a returned HDD060 from Richer Sounds for £90. Its excellent. 1.5gb is sufficient for my needs, I can't see that I'll ever work my way through 75 Cds worth of music unless I am going for a very, Very, Very long run ;). The USB 1.1 interface seems pretty fast to me. The only slight downside is the DMM Software. I have now switched to DBpowerAMP Sveta Portable Audio and its perfect. Go and Buy one. Most of the problems that are reported wioth this unit are down to people not reading the manual.

"data storage what for?"
First of all i would like to say that this is a good product

the software does what it says on the box

the thing with usb transfer speed i avn't realy noticed as i am using a USB 2.0 enabled laptop to transfer music

The issue on data storage i would like say is... Why buy an MP3 player for data storage,
That why there is removable USB Hard drives /Flash readers

Sound Quality:- Superb
not worried about top volume as i don't like music at top volume directly in my ears anyway.

Overall:- I'l give it 8/10

Thanks for a great product

"stupidity of the nerds"
philips hdd060 is a brilliant product thanks to its audio output quality, the 'stupidity of the nerds' is aptly demonstrated by their argument that hdd060 is rubbish as it does not have USB2, they think that it is a waste of their time unless they can download in seconds weeks worth of music! This illogical and idiotic thinking is classic NERDNESS!

From colin wren, July 19, 2004

"usb2.0 vs usb1.1"
I agree about USB2 not being required for hdd060/05 unit (I live in UK).

There is just no real point in having high speed transfer for audio files as they can obviously only be listened to in 'real time' and you could easily end with hundreds of hours of music that you will NEVER listen to.

USB2 for data transfer yes, but USB1.1 is sensible for transferring audio files on hdd06/05.

ps. Has anybody solved the 'reversed CD track order' problem on HDD060/05 ??????

From bob turner, July 17, 2004

"sounds great"
philips hdd060/05 sounds excellent. USB1.1, DMM both not 'leading edge technologies' but they do the task as specified as the most important issue is getting high sound quality in a matchbox, I would not want to pay more to have more techy-gizmos that then compromised sound quality.

From john hope, July 17, 2004

"good for cd transfer"
I agree with item below, hdd060 is perfect for holding your CD's for holidays and business trips.

People who ridicule that it is not USB2.0 are real plonkers, yes they CAN transfer HUNDREDS of hours of music in SECONDS with USB2.0, but, pray tell, just WHEN do they propose to LISTEN to the WEEKS of it all??!!**

Are their EARS/BRAINS equipped with USB2??!!!

NO, of course they cannot, they are clearly nerdy trainspotter types, PHILIPS desision for USB1.1 on a 1.5gig device is a perfectly sound engineering decision.

From robert veck, July 16, 2004

"great for large CD library"
If you have a large CD collection and are not too interested in downloading thousands of tunes from the internet then this is a really great device.

Average CD transfer time is couple of minutes with USB1.1, never really understand people who demand USB2.0 to transfer loads of tracks - their ears and brain are still the mk I versions that will need WEEKS to LISTEN to all this downloaded in seconds USB2.0 thousands of tracks music!
