Plextor's sub-$80 USB Video Capture

  May 19th, 2004

Plextor just adds the PX-AV100U to the ConvertX video capture product family. Unlike the PX-M402U, the bus-powered adapter is targeting at the low-end sector with a $79 price tag.

Moreover, the PX-AV100U lacks a multi-format encoder chip, which takes video input and digitalizes data into MPEG-2, MPEG-4 or DivX. DivX has consumer electronics compatibility superiority over MPEG-4. A high-end PC would be handling the format conversion instead. MPEG-4 is left out though. On the software front, Plextor bundles WinDVD Creator 2 and DivX software encoder.
