"Way too slow for today's standard" If you care about the speed, forget this tiny drive. It's very very slow.
I compared it with my Lexar Jump Drive 2.0 Pro 256MB version. To transfer a 5MB file, for Cruzer Micro, you have to wait and look at the status bar in Windows. On the other hand, Lexar took negligible time to complete the transfer. The status bar didn't even show up and it's DONE... a blink of my eyes.
Yes, the Cruzer Micro is about 1/3 smaller than Lexar JumpDrive. But for the speed, I will say NO NO NO... See my Cruzer Micro on Ebay.. From vlsi54199, January 02, 2005
"love the size, but too slow" I was trying to get away from using Zip disks, so I picked up a Cruzer Micro 256 mb. Turns out it is much slower. To transfer 87 mb took about 3 minutes -- and this is using a brand new Dell computer! I'm going to try the Cruzer Titanium and see if it's any faster. I have a Dell USB flash drive of 128 mb and it is about 3x faster than Cruzer Micro.
Bottom line: don't buy. From Radford Davis, September 16, 2004
"Who said size doesn't matter?" Size: 2" x 3/4" x 1/4"
The Cruzer Micro USB flash drive is one of the smallest flash drives available. This drive supports USB 2.0 and is Windows and Mac compatible. The Windows 98SE driver can be downloaded at the SanDisk website along with the CruzerLock data security software. The read/write speed of the Cruzer Micro is a bit slower than most of the new drives coming out today. Reading a 100mb file from the Cruzer Micro took about 11 seconds and writing a 100MB file took a little over a minute. While not the fastest drive, I find it sufficient enough for backing up important files on my PC and transfering files between work and home. I think speed might be more of a concern if using the 512mb model.
Here are the results of the 2MB Files Test using SiSoftware Sandra:
Read Performance : 209 operation(s)/min (7134 kb/sec, 40x)
Write Performance : 19 operation(s)/min (649 kb/sec, 3x)
Delete Performance : 144 operation(s)/min
Combined Index : 52 operation(s)/min
One thing I like about the Cruzer Micro is the sturdy design. I've used a few other flash drives before and some of them had cheap plastic covers and would even rattle a bit. The Cruzer Micro is sealed in clear plastic and has a nice sleek mirrored look with a bright blue LED. The thin design won't block any extra USB ports and the plastic cap fits on the end of the drive. A lanyard and clear plastic sleeve is also included which can be used in place of the cap.
CruzerLock data security software installs on the flash drive and enables the user to encrypt and decrypt files with a password. This software does not create a private/public partition on the drive.
Even with the slower speed I would recommend the Cruzer Micro because of its diminutive size and cool design. If you're planning on moving large amounts of data frequently I would consider the Cruzer Titanium but for average use I think the Cruzer Micro will do just fine. From Kenny Park, May 18, 2004
