"Rio plus XP plus Nvidia = Disaster" I thought this product was great until I tried to run it on my new computer with an Nvidia chipset and XP. It wouldn't recognize the hardware even though I'd had the 1.8 firmware installed already. The company's solution of loading updated firmware from another computer is an admission of incompetence. I'll try loading firmware version 2.03 from work and post results. From Tony Wilson, October 09, 2004
"Fix it by flashing the device to version 1.8" I had the same problem as the other guy with the nvidia nforce2 chipset motherboard and using windows xp. You can not fix it if you are using 1.0 of the firmware with your system. You have to go to another PC and flash it to version 1.8. This will fix all the problems and makes the player perform flawlessly under XP with the nvidia chipset. Be warned that if you do not have access to another pc that can actually upgrade the firmware of the rio, then you will be SOL. Tech support is terrible, but if you get it flashed, you will be very pleased with it. From John Paul Frank Harold Fritz Hansen Smith, May 17, 2004
"HOW DO YOU WORK IT???" CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME I HAVE NO CLUE HOW TO USE THIS PORDUCT THE RIóS10 MP3 PLAYER. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EMAIL ME AND TELL ME THE INTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO WORK ON THE MP3 PLAYER?, AND HOW DOWNLOAD THE MUSIC INTO THE MP3 PLAYER BECAUSE THEN I WILL NEVER LEARN HOW TO USE THIS THING. "How can something so small be so EVIL?!?!?!?!" I got the RioS10 mp3 player for Christmas; just what i wanted. It worked fine until two weeks ago. It just automaticly stopped working for no apparent reason. The buttons wouldn't respond at all,and only the main screen appeared. But it wouldn't play any music, even with a brand new battery. Either the thing is posessed, or it's just a plain old peice of JUNK! I asked for help from the assistant people, but the information they gave me didnt help me at all! All I ever wanted was to listen to music on my mp3 player, but all I can say to all the people who plan on getting one is...Buying RioS10 is a mistake! It's a total waste of $150!!! "SonicBlue SUCKS!!" Not only do I NOT recommend this product, I recommend you avoid ALL Sonic Blue products like the plague.
SonicBlue sucks. They make you pay for calls to get support and also order information, then they make you wait on hold for hours.
They never answer e-mails sent from their Web form.
They shit your order when they damned well please -- never within 72 hours as they claim.
If you are stupid enough to buy anything from them, use a credit card. Then charge back the purchase. :) From Bill, January 11, 2003
"CRAP!" If this thing is compatible with your computer (motherboard, actually), then you're set and it's a great piece of work. Very simple and easy to use; elegant in fact. However, if it's not compatible with your computer (and Rio doesn't put out a list of which ones it works with), then you're plain screwed. I couldn't get mine to connect to my PC (WinXP, Nvidia Nforce mobo). Apparently new firmware would solve that problem. But how can I upgrade firmware if I can't connect it?!! Used my roommate's computer (Win2k) which recognized it, upgraded firmware to version 1.6, then my computer would finally recognize it.
Except now it won't download songs (with either RealOne Player or Rio Music Manager), so it's now a worthless piece of junk. I think it's just incompatible with my computer/motherboard.
And Sonciblue's support sucks! Don't respond to emails and they make you pay for phone calls.
Do not but this product. Companies that manufacture this kind of junk and then don't support it need to go out of business. From jd, January 09, 2003
"software frustration - no support" Got the S10 for Xmas. I like it fine except that I cannot get my laptop (XP pro) to recognize it - driver troubles? Works fine with my desktop (Win 98). I have tried and tried to get help but lose patience after being on hold for an hour and my emails have not been responded to. The support search has not yet yielded a solution. Bottom line: I have wasted more time that the machine is worth. From dan, January 04, 2003
"Awesome!" IT is a great mp3 player for the money...i agree, it needs more memory...192mb isn't alot.
It comes with a AA battery, which lasts it about 30 hrs.
Also, it comes with a SMALL carying case, and headphones.
If you got one and need to know where the memory card solt is, it's in the battery compartment.

"Great player, but memory limit holds it back" This was the first portable mp3 player i have used. It is a replacement sterio in my car and it does a great job the EQ and volume settings are fantastic but the only thing that hurts this product is the 64 Mb onboard and max of 192 Mb. For an entry level product it is great. From Jeff, November 21, 2002
