USB HDDs Withstand Pressure, Meet DoD Req.

I O Data has a new series of external USB hard drives that won't crack under pressure, literally. The new drive series is designed to meet the specs of the Department of Defense somewhere, the press release doesn't specify whose Department of Defense. Nonetheless, it sounds that the external drives are quite durable. Makes me wonder if they'd stand up my one year old, I should hire her out as an ANSI standard.

I O Data has a new drive series with the following capacities, 40 GB, 80 GB and 120 GB. Two drive colors are available, black and silver. But that's not the drives claim to fame. Durability is the claim to fame for these drives and they are designed to withstand pressures of up to 100 kg of force. The manufacturer also says the drives have been drop tested from a height of 122 cm. The drives measure in an 86.4 x 132.5 x 24.6mm. Disk compatibility is with Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows 98 and Mac OS 9.1x - 9.2x. However, the bundled disk management software is Windows compatible only.
