Kensington USB Dock Station Offers 5.1 Surround

  April 25th, 2005

There are a truckload of docking stations out there that can optimize screen height for your comfort, but none of them offer as much USB features as the Kensington Notebook Dock. Due early May, the Notebook Dock boasts 5.1 surround sound from C-Media CM106, 100Base-T Ethernet, parallel, serial and 3 USB ports.

While USB video replication is possible, the slow refresh rate remains a problem, which deters Kensington from putting one in. Though, it's not certain if USB video is all that useful to an average user as it will saturate even USB 2.0 bandwidth.

Additionally, the Kensington Notebook Dock comes with the usual copyholder, notebook cooling ventilation and security slot. The $140 USB portion of the station is also detachable.
