Blu-ray drives are still an expensive proposition for most PC users and LaCie has done nothing to change that with their latest d2 Blu-ray drive priced at $1035 which is up for review at PC Magazine. The external d2 Blu-ray drive can burn Blu-ray discs with BD-R at 2x and it can burn DVD and CDs as well. CD-R and DVD-R DL burn speeds are 24x and 4x respectively. The d2 carries both USB 2.0 and Firewire connectivity. The actual drive is a Panasonic SW-5582 that LaCie puts into their familiar silver external enclosure. It requires an external power adapter as well to get things running. LaCie bundles CyberLink PowerDVD BD for Blu-ray movie playback, Roxio Toast 7.1.1 and Roxio Easy Media Creator 8.2 XE on the software side. At the end of the day PC Magazine doesn’t recommend this drive based on price and points out that there are cheaper options that can do the same thing as the LaCie d2. About Everything USB
