LaCie Readies 2.5" RAID Solution

Another new hard drive from LaCie, the Little Big Disk is sure to spark interest amongst video editing enthusiasts and speed freaks, using 2 (presumably 2.5") drives in a smaller-than-average enclosure with a 16MB cache and RAID-0 to attain ludicrous speeds on all three of its interfaces.

Over USB 2.0 and FireWire 400, the Little Big Disk can reach 34MBps and 41MBps, but over FireWire 800 a staggering 82MBps can be achieved for streaming high-definition content or working with large files. Despite there being two hard drives crammed into the tight enclosure, the unit is convection cooled and does not have a fan for silent operation.

Capacities are set at 160GB, 200GB (7200RPM), 240GB and 320GB with price points of $399, $649, $649, and $799 respectively. Shipping commences in the 2nd quarter, although pre-orders are currently being taken.
