Few childhood memories inspire such warm feelings as those conjured by anything Lego. Hours spent working on elaborate creations and imagination realized by those tiny little blocks. Seeing this DIY Lego Printer took us back to days of old, with fond memories of pulling pigtails and nascent programming with ShowTurtle. That was Logo and this is Lego, but the "pen up" and "pen down" commands seem oddly appropriate hearing the unnamed creator describe writing some of the Mac printer driver. Pushing the felt tip pen across the paper at roughly ONE page per minute won't be winning any races. If it were any faster, we'd be robbed of the joy of this performance so 1ppm is fine. The printer is even bidirectional, rendering rows of output both forwards and backwards. The setup took the inventor, who custom built everything, roughly 20 evenings to complete in his spare time. None of that fancy Mindstorms stuff, that's for cheaters. The felt-jet printer is 100% original Lego with motors and some custom PCB project boards. Arduino fans have to feel terribly slighted. For your next challenge we want a Lego fighting robot entered in a Bot-Ball competition. Fight. Video demo after the jump.
