DVD-RAM Hits 12x for USB Burners in Far East

  February 18th, 2006

DVD-RAM Hits 12x for USB Burners in Far EastDVD-RAM has a few advantages of its own, notably the ability to be written as if it were a removable hard drive on Windows XP or better. It also excels in durability - 100,000 times re-write as opposed to 1,000 times that of DVD-R/W. So, a faster DVD-RAM would be somewhat useful when Logitec ships its external burner in the form of Super Multi - supporting all DVD formats.

Logitec Japan's first external burner, capable of burning DVD-RAM at 12x, seems to require new media that conforms to the new version 2.2 of the DVD Forum standard. Since new media isn't yet available, the drive will just fall back to 5x and 3x depending on your discs.

For a DVD+R/-R unit, the speeds aren't too shabby. They reach as high as 8x for dual layer and 16x for single layer DVD. The LDR-MA16U2 will cost you around about 14-thousand yen when it ships at the end of March.
