Memorex's USB OTG Bridge with Card Reader

  February 2nd, 2006

USB OTG bridges are getting old and slow... especially since none of the manufacturers has tried to take advantage of the Hi-Speed USB silicons. Regardless, Memorex has a good USB OTG implementation that is both functional and economical for those who think the SmartDisk FotoChute is severely overpriced.

The new $55 Memorex TravelLink (yes a USB OTG device) comes equipped with a versatile 8-in-1 card reader in addition to two USB ports (source and target). So, you pick the files you want for transfers on the 3-line monochrome LCD, and then begin the download, at (sigh) USB 1.1 speed. What makes this somewhat special is the built-in flash reader, which is convenient in situations where the proprieatary camera cable is not available.

We strongly believe the TravelLink is a lot more useful to photographers if it has Hi-Speed USB. Developers, pls listen.
