Microsoft Says No USB Drive for You!

  May 30th, 2006

They say there is no free lunch, evidently the same goes for USB drives. Microsoft was running a promotion back in February that was called "Mystery Solved" aimed at educating people everywhere on Microsoft licensing terms. The gimmick was that for answering three simple questions Microsoft would send a USB drive that had information on licensing terms on it.

The reality of the giveaway is that many geeks put in their personal information and got nothing in return. Maybe Microsoft wanted geeks to see how they feel when someone doesn't give them what they want, namely your money for a license for Windows. Maybe they wanted to convert throngs of quasi-pirates into irate haters by not delivering on their promise, who knows. Irony is that with a program that was obviously aimed at pirates, Microsoft has now built themselves a nice little list of potential pirates and the information was freely given.
