Mobilygen's USB Capture Shakes Hands with iPod

  December 29th, 2005

It's only a matter of time before developers ride on the success of iPod to develop iPod-friendly USB video capture devices. Mobilygen today has given them a head start. Their new MG1264 is the first codec chip providing USB developer the the functionality of converting DV into H.264/AAC that falls within 30fps QVGA 768kbps baseline profile requirement of the video iPod.

The MG1264 requires only 125mW total chip power, which according to the company is very USB bus-power friendly. There are obviously other components as well. So, the silicon can't have everything. 55% of the consumers want TV on their portable devices. USB TV powered by this MG1264 can save the stream directly as H.264, hence saving the time required for the extra step of video conversion.

Commercial samples are available, and pricing starts at $10 apiece in volume purchase.
