Apple iPhones, iPods Dry up NAND Stocks

  July 11th, 2007

WE RECOMMEND
Apple has increased its appetite for NAND flash chips that will be put on iPhones and future iPods so it has asked Samsung and Hynix to keep a reserve stock for them in anticipation of a seasonal upturn in demand. This move according to DigiTimes has caused some degrees of difficulties for second-tier consumers namely A-Data, Kingston, PQI and Transcend to acquire the flash modules needed for their flash drives and memory cards. These folks account for one-fifth of Samsung's total output. We could be seeing prices of 4GB and 8GB flash drives to recover in upcoming months.
