Addonics's $29 USB 2.0 upgrade plan

  December 31st, 1969

Addonics USB storage peripheral owners could now jump onto the USB 2.0 bandwagon with the new USB 2.0 upgrade plan.

Before the end of August, the new Addonics USB 2.0 cable is available for only $29. Designed to fit into all Addonics External CD, DVD, DVD/CDRW and hard drive kits, the new cable will able to bump the speed of all storage devices to its full potential. Soon, Addonics USB storage products will ship with USB 2.0 cable, which is also backward compatible with USB 1.1 port.

In addition, Addonics USB2.0 interface cable supports bus power to Pocket DVD, Pocket CD-ROM and Pocket ExDrive.

Because many notebook and desktop PCs do not have a USB 2.0 port, Addonics will offer a USB 2.0 PCI add on card for desktop PCs, and a PCMCIA USB 2.0 adapter for notebook PCs to allow users to upgrade their systems to take advantage of USB 2.0's high throughput. The PCI card has a list price of $59. The PCMCIA adapter will be list priced at $99. The USB 2.0 cable and the PCI card will be available beginning June 20. The PCMCIA adapter will be available the end of July.

The cable is fully Plug n Play compatible under Windows Me, 2000, XP, and also comes with Window 98SE driver.

Orange Micro. has released the first USB 2.0 driver for Windows 98/SE/ME/2000 that works with all OrangeUSB USB 2.0 cards to take advantage of the 480Mbps bandwidth.
