Linksys Shares USB Storage on Network

  June 15th, 2004

Linksys’ NSLU2 is a bridge for USB 2.0 hard drives connecting to a Fast Ethernet network. It can connect up to two USB storage devices, including USB flash drives and regular USB hard drives. Files on the NSLU2 are accessible on local area network and the Internet, should you hook it up to a broadband router.

Iomega REV isn’t on the supported device list, but presumably, it won’t work due to a non-Windows file system reformat required by Linksys’ disk utilities. Using a web browser, you’ll be able to access files, do disk scans, and also schedule backup. The $99 NSLU2 is Windows-only, and doesn’t support Rendezvous, unlike Keyspan USB Server.

In related news, you can get a $20 rebate for purchasing a Maxtor OneTouch USB hard drive with the NSLU2 through September 30th.
