Sony Swaps Flash Memory with HDD

  June 21st, 2004

Sony has added a new 2GB hard drive, designated USD-2G, to its Pocket Bit USB drive family. Breaking the tradition of using flash memory, the miniature hard drive could be a 2GB Storage Element from Cornice.

A rotating USB connector also conceals itself into the 7.3 x 5 x 1.3 cm hard case. A button on case activates the auto file synchronization for selected folders and files. The USD-2G is expected to retail for ¥34,440 in Japan in July, according to The Register UK.

The Sony Pocket Bit has several models equivalent to the Micro Vaults in America, including the Elite, Ultra Mini and Memory Stick Micro Vault.
