Yamaha Unveils CRW-70 Spyder CD-RW

  December 31st, 1969

Yamaha today announced the CRW-70 Spyder CD-RW, a much needed device for portable MP3 junkies everywhere.

The CRW-70 Spyder is Yamaha's answer to a very non-existent 'all-in-one' CD device market. Capable of not only burning CD's at fast speeds via USB 2.0, the CRW-70 Spyder also functions as a portable CD/MP3 player, allowing users to burn a CD and take their burner with them to listen to the music. Cool!

With 12/8/24x write/re-write/read speeds, and Yamaha's SafeBurn Buffer Management, the CRW-70 Spyder connects via USB 2.0. USB 1.1 is - as always - backwards compatible, for 4/4/6x speeds.

Yamaha's most defining feature of the CRW-70 Spyder is the built-in hardware MP3 decoding, allowing for a CD burnt with MP3 files to be played straight from the device. The CRW-70 also doubles as a regular CD player as well.

Compatible with both Windows and MacOS platforms, the CRW-70 Spyder from Yamaha will be available early October for approximately $299.99.

Before the CRW-70 Spyder, Sony and Imation rolled out Digital Relay and RipGo! respectively that allow users to burn MP3s on CD-Rs and to listen to them on the road. Since the category inception, the Yamaha is the first to release a USB 2.0 compatible model.
