World’s First DivX Certified USB PVR

Plextor’s fourth ConvertX PX-TV402U is close to most readers here ask for from a PVR; it has a built-in NTSC TV tuner plus analog S-video capture and a hardware encoder for converting video directly into MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and DivX.

WinDVR 5 handles the time-shifting and TitanTV provides the free electronic programming guide. There’s also direct-to-disc for those with a CD or DVD burner.

The $200 PX-TV402U needs external power so it may seem to be less portable than competitors’ offerings. When Plextor’s external PVR hits the market later this month, it will clash head-on with ATI USB 2.0 TV Wonder.
