Pretec’s Faster 8GB i-Disk Flash Drive

  December 8th, 2004

Holding 8GB of uncompressed data in the palm of your hand is an impressive feat, and an expensive one at that. So far Buslink has been the only company to manufacture 8GB flash drives, and they retail at $1,799. Well, the heat is on as Pretec has announced its own 8GB flash drive, the i-Disk II 8GB. While no pricing info is available to set it apart from the Buslink model, it’s read / write speeds of 16MB / 12MB per second run circles around Buslink’s 10MB / 9.2MB rate.

Bundled software includes Pretec’s own FlashMail, MobileLock, and SecretZip software. Production is slated to begin next month, and there are hints that later they may integrate Bluetooth and WLAN support.
