Lexar Proposes Royalty-free USB FlashCard

  December 15th, 2004

Long-time USB flash drive manufacturer Lexar realizes the dream of those who want a universal removable media standard. Its new USB FlashCard, volumetrically similar to an SD card, is due next year with both Full-Speed USB and Hi-Speed USB versions from 16MB to 1GB.

What distinguishes the USB FlashCard from all other memory formats is its integration of the ubiquitous USB interface. From a manufacturer’s point of view, it eliminates the need to bundle a USB cable and a flash card reader with their products not to mention it is royalty-free free. For a typical consumer, accessing the content in the FlashCard is simply finding an available USB port.

Although the concept is initially brought up by UTMA in February, Lexar is first to race to the market with a real product.
