Popular external hard drive manufacturer LaCie has made their version of a multimedia hard drive, the LaCie silverscreen. Available in 40GB ($249) and 80GB ($329) capacities at 5400rpm with an 8MB cache, the silverscreen connects to your television set to playback a wide variety of formats including MPEG-1/2/3/4, WAV, AAC, WMA, and AC3, as well as JPEG photos up to 8 mega pixels. Additionally, support for XviD and DivX video is provided, including Video On-Demand movies rented from DivX’s website.
While the silverscreen provides the traditional RCA out, power users can take advantage of the drive’s S-Video and YPbPr connections for higher quality video, and both coaxial and SPDIF digital audio.Filed under External Hard Drives & Other USB Storage
