Philips 'ShockLock' 4GB MP3 Player

  January 27th, 2006

Philips 'ShockLock' 4GB MP3 PlayerMP3 players all come in different sizes, but mostly they are going for the conventional rectangular shape. Only Sony so far has surprised us with their MP3 bean and ergonomic-emphaized Network Walkman. Philips is taking its turn now with the Active PSA612 with a circular-shaped design. CNET just reviewed it and gave it a 6 out of 10, implying there are about the same number of problems as praises.

The Philips PSA612 is mostly functional when it's strapped with armband. As the player is designed for athletes in mind, the 4GB micro drive inside is shielded by something called Shocklock. Basically, activating it manually will fill the buffer memory with 4 to 12 songs and park the HDD. CNET believes the ShockLock may not be necessary as the PSA612 did hold up fine in the tolerance tests.
