Philips Introduces a New Mouse with a Bad Name SPM8713

  April 24th, 2007

Philips Electronics is better known for TVs and home theater products that computer peripherals yet they are releasing a new wireless mouse for notebook computers today. Philips calls the mouse the SPM8713 and it has rather nice specs to go along with the good looks. The laser mouse has a 1600 dpi sensitivity and Philips used soft silicone cushions for a more comfortable grip. The laser uses the Philips twin-eye sensor that won the SENSOR Innovation Award in 2006. Perhaps the most interesting tidbit is that Philips claims the mouse uses tech to turn it off when not in use, resulting in a claimed 1 year battery life. It’s not clear if the battery in question is rechargeable or normal AA or AAA style, but with the mobile nature of the mouse I would expect them to be normal AAA or AA units like the VX Revolution does. Availability is slated to start in May with no word on pricing.
