Notebook users that are looking for better sound at home, in the office or on the road know that the best way to get better sound is with a USB headset. The Plantronics .Audio 550 DSP headset are totally USB powered and require no external power adapter to operate. Digital Trends gave the headphones 7 out of 10 and said the lows were poor portability, uncomfortable for extended use and they won’t work with MP3 players. Highs were excellent sound and mic performance with gaming and VoIP. Volume is controlled via an in-line volume control. The mic boom uses Plantronics’ QuickAdjust boom to make ideal placement easier. The speakers are 40mm units and overall the headphones appear to be somewhat bulky. The USB cord used is 10 feet long to give you room to work and move. The headphones are available now and price is set at $119.95. If you like the idea of USB headset but prefer no wires check out the MS' LifeChat ZX-6000.
