PortableApps.com has released an update to the PortableApps Software Suite. One of the pioneers in the portable application world, their suite is actually a conglomeration of custom launchers of open source applications and community developed conversions to a portable friendly form. The suite also includes a brilliant patchwork of utilities that melds them into a integrated package. All of the projects that get included under the PortableApps umbrella must be open source. While the owners of the suite do the lions share of the work, they also work with a large community of developers who freely contribute their time and their efforts to produce and alter software to work better from removable media. The applications come with their own 'Start' and 'All Programs' which will launch alternatives to Office suites, word processors, image editors, password manager, anti-virus, and a web browser (Firefox) to name a few. All of these run directly off any flash drive, and save their settings as well as any changes you make back to the flash drive. The program also remembers these settings regardless of what computer you log into. The updates to the suite include a few visual tweaks to the main launcher interface and updates to all of the included applications. The packages are for Windows only but many of the applications have been ported to Apple and Unix if they didn't originate from them. You can check out other packages by Lupo and WinPenPack but PortableApps version is still a fan favorite. Definitely a must have for truly mobile individuals. About Everything USB
