Pretec Marries World's Smallest Flash Drive and RFID

WE RECOMMEND
Pretec Marries World's Smallest Flash Drive and RFID

Pretec is claiming that the i-Disk RFID is the smallest flash drive in the world. Measuring in at 45.7 x 12.2 x 2.2 mm the drive is claimed to be 25% smaller in volume than a quarter and at 1/4 the size of normal flash drives, certainly smaller than the other Pretec drives we have seen. Storage capacities are from 128MB to 1GB. The primary market for these drives is hospitals, airports and the like. The data on the drive can be read as the drive passes by an RFID reader on a conveyor belt or the like. I used to work in hospitals and I can see the benefit of this type of system for tracking equipment and keeping usage logs right on the flash drive. Other uses in the medical setting are for ID bracelets that carry information on the patient such as allergies and medications. Mass production of the drives is scheduled for the second quarter of this year.
